Video: The Making of the Versalette

In February, we went to North Carolina to observe the production process of the Versalette. We learned how so many little things have to come together to make one garment, and we wanted to share our experience with all of you.

Each step of manufacturing happens in the USA, which nowadays, is a rare and special thing in the fashion industry. We’re proud of each and every detail that goes into the making of our first piece — and it’s something all of you can be proud of, too.

So, without further ado, we present “The Making of the Versalette.” Or watch it on our (new!) website here! {r}

VIDEO: FEAR & FAST-PITCHING (WITH BLOOPERS!)

{Note: We’re no longer accepting internship applications. We’ll be announcing the two new additions to our team soon!}

Two weeks ago, we found out we were one of the 13 finalists chosen to present at the RISE Austin Social Innovation Fast Pitch competition.

In other words, we had 14 days to take our entire company message and narrow it down into a 60-second speech. It would be the first time we had ever presented our idea to a live audience, in front of a panel of judges. click to read more

How Fair Trade Affects You: A Video

Fair trade has been a huge part of our search for sustainable fabrics. It’s become more and more popular with coffee and chocolate, but the textile industry is still lagging behind.

When you buy a fair trade t-shirt, that usually means that it was sewn using fair trade labor. It’s a huge step in the right direction, but what about the workers who picked the cotton and spun it into actual material?

We found this video by FairTradeUSA (formerly TransFairUSA) that explains the process. As of last summer, they’re now offering certifications for apparel, as well.

If you’ve ever wondered about the term ‘fair trade,’ then take a few minutes to watch this. It matters more than you think. {r}

Video: Where We've Been & Where We're Going

As things have progressed over the past six months we’ve grown our fan base and seem to be acquiring a new audience by the day. It’s Not About Ideas, It’s About Making Ideas Happen

99 Percent is a one-of-a-kind resource. It’s the website of a think-tank, focusing on what happens between inspiration and results.  The tagline says it all:  “It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.”

Today I stumbled across this video, “If I Knew Then What I Know Now: Advice for Young Creatives.” Sometimes it’s good to see people who are at a totally different stage in the game and reminisce about their beginnings.

When you’re having one of those frustrating days and would rather search through Monster.com than think about that great-yet-daunting idea, 99 Percent is there for inspiration. It’s a great tool for learning about leadership, organization, financing, creativity, and the rewards of perseverance. {r}

Video: Two Gringos in Guatemala

I met Kristin in the small, colonial town of Antigua, Guatemala on Tuesday and ever since, the ball has been rolling. We wake up around 7am every day to tackle our business plan, determining our target market and marketing strategy. In the afternoons, we take individual Spanish classes with Jose and Karla, a couple who runs Latinoamerica Spanish Academy from their home.

On Saturday, we took the morning to visit the central market and browse through some of the local apparel, hoping to find inspiration for our own clothing line. {We have decided what we want to produce, but we haven’t quite figured out how. We’ll be sharing our ideas and plans this week — our big reveal!}

This is a short video of us in the markets of Antigua. {r}

Video: How to Cope with Change {Part II}

How does one “deal” with change?  What do we do to make ourselves overcome the mental obstacles regarding big changes in our lives?

Kristin talks about her coping methods, and shares some photos from the last time she made a big change — and almost backed out.

What do you do to soothe your mind and power through “scary” times? {r}

Video: How to Cope with Change {Part 1}

Change is a funny thing.  You make a decision to do something big–and then, right before the change is supposed to happen, you get the notion to back out.  Turn around, walk away, and go back to your comfort zone.

Kristin talks about leaving for Guatemala in a few days–and her resulting anxiety. {r}

(Note: Shannon will be joining her in late October)
